Couple that with excellent sound effects - like hearing the moans of predatory creatures swimming near you - and professional voice acting and music, and you'll get a sense of the production values here. The game is a real stunner, with high-resolution graphics, impressive lighting, and amazing special effects (including very realistic-looking water). One of the first memorable moments is discovering and investigating the huge spaceship that brought you to this alien world to begin with. Once you're in the first of a few different vessels, you'll quickly get the hang of navigation and control, so you can focus on the core gameplay element - survival - as you follow waypoints to complete various goals, and choose flight or fight based on the threats that await you (some can't be killed, so you'll need to think of alternative approaches).

Also, you can choose to play how you like: Creative mode allows you to explore underwater worlds and build bases without having to worry about health upkeep or resource costs Survival mode is more difficult, as you must manage health, hunger, and hydration and the aptly named Hardcore mode only gives you one life and no O2 alerts, to truly test your survival skills. If you like Subnautica you might like this game. Sure there are some interesting parts to it, but for the most part it looks like a big snowed in canyon/plain.

For the cons it is kind of a maze, is at the whims of the weather (so be prepared to not be able to see anything when a whiteout happens.) For the meh well it's kind of boring. For the pros, it being a new biome type, and having the scariest monster in this game. * I feel that above water biome fits in all three categories due to a few reasons.

Seatruck (I feel it is a downgrade to the vehicles in the previous game, but it is an all-in-one vehicle unlike the specialized vehicles in the first game).

Also don't fall in the water unless you would like to move the same way/speed a fishing bobber moves in a very slow stream.)

Snowfox (it's a levitating motorcycle thing, it zips and zooms, and the steering is absolutely atrocious.

Weather (I also hate this games weather with a passion.when I am trying to traverse the above water biome.).

The enemy in the above water biome (it's scary and annoying, which is a very bad combo).

Lack of scary enemies (except perhaps one of them).

Weather (it adds some variety to the world and gets bonus points for the aurora borealis).

Base building (can actually build a home underwater now).

From any given position of your character, you can get the precise distance to all of. Its an open world exploration/survival game in which you can place 'beacons' at certain point in the map. It is incredible, picked it up over the christmas holidays and was immediately addicted. With that out of the way lets look at some of this game's pros, cons, and mehs. Subnautica is an amazing game by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. The original game's map was more open, while this game's map (outside of the above water biome) feels more claustrophobic. There is an above water biome, which has one of the most annoying enemies in either of the Subnautica games, but to be honest that is the only part of the game that feels large.

Honestly my favorite part of this game is the base building, which is one of the things this game beats the original in. It's more Subnautica, but it's not as good as the original.
